Black Island Outfitters is a privately held maker of precision fishing equipment and the proprietor of the UnReel® hybrid reel platform.
The UnReel® was developed over several years of iterative engineering and field testing. It is, to our knowledge, the first commercially viable reel that retrieves like a conventional reel and casts like a spinning reel — two superpowers in a single instrument.
The intellectual property protecting the platform is held by Black Island Outfitters, LLC and is actively prosecuted in the United States and through the Patent Cooperation Treaty. We administer licensing ourselves, with the assistance of outside counsel, because we believe our partners deserve direct dialogue with the originator of the technology.
